Christ is born in Bethlehem; His blest Nativity
Bids king and prince and pauper all to fall on bended knee
With equity and mercy shall He judge the hearts of men
And with His blood the hope procure that they might dwell with Him.
Take heart, ye lowly shepherds dwelling on that country plain
Not from a palace but a barn the Savior comes to reign
The poor and meek shall be raised up; injustice set aright
For Christ, our Hope, is born in Bethlehem this holy night.
Christ is born in Bethlehem, all nations’ true desire
Hath come, announced in carols sung by wing’d celestial choir
In unity and brotherhood shall He His people bind
And make as one the countless tribes and factions of mankind.
Ye angel host, sing Gloria! Ring in the dawn of peace
And bid the errant human race its godless warring cease
To concord’s Author glory be in Heaven’s highest height
For Christ, our Peace, is born in Bethlehem this holy night.
Christ is born in Bethlehem, the prophets’ Promised One.
A tender, helpless Babe; the spotless Virgin’s holy Son
His Blessed Mother, radiant with the ling’ring glow of birth,
Holds gently on her breast the Savior of a fallen earth.
Sweet Mary, let thy soul be glad, for all shall be made new
Thy Child who slumbers now shall yet the pow’rs of Hell undo
And all who dwell in darkness shall behold His perfect light
For Christ, our Joy, is born in Bethlehem this holy night.
Christ is born in Bethlehem, the Son of God on High
His love for us so fathomless that He descendeth nigh
And deigns to bear the burdens of our mortal human form
Until the day that love His dreadful Passion shall become.
O, sinners, lend your voices to the angels’ heav’nly strain
The Father’s love to every fellow man on earth proclaim
Proud hatred and division by His Name be put to flight
For Christ, our Love, is born in Bethlehem this holy night.
Christ is born in Bethlehem, our Lord Emmanuel
On earth, His own creation, hath our Savior come to dwell
His faithful to deliver from the terrors of the grave
The Word made flesh, our God made Man, mankind from death to save.
Praise be to God the Father, and to His incarnate Son,
And to the Holy Spirit; ever Three and ever One
Ye host around the throne exalt the very Light of Light
For Christ the Lord is born in Bethlehem this holy night.
